NBC to offer shows on Netflix
Epispodes will be available to Netflix subscribers on its web site the day after they air on the network. Past episodes of other NBC shows will also be available.
Netflix is working hard to offer it's subscribers multiple delivery options including DVD by mail and digital download.
We agree with NewTeeVee that the deal seems to make sense for all parties, including consumers.

Media download stats fall in Japan
A total of 111.6 million downloads were made during the second quarter of this year, down from 114.3 million in the first quarter of the year, the RIAJ said. The figures are derived from data supplied to the RIAJ by its 42 member companies.
Root causes for the drop were not yet determined. Even with the small decrease in volume, revenue managed a slight increase.
US-based startups like HungryFlix.com offer movie and music downloads and continue to see growth. It will be interesting to see if this negative trend moves to the US.

TiVo, Amazon to push download directly to TV
TiVo upgraded the "Amazon Unbox on TiVo" service to allow customers with high-speed Internet connections to select one of about 10,000 movies, shows or other video, using the TiVo remote control.
For TiVo, the new capabilities help to distinguish it's DVR units from less expensive models now offered by cable and satellite providers.
This is continued good news for the movie downloads market as it opens more doors for consumers to get great content and view it in the more comfortable family room setting.
Amazon Unbox competitor HungryFlix.com has offered movie downloads for Apple TV since the device's introduction in March.

Near Toronto? Check out Mighty Brave Productions local screening
TORONTO – Mighty Brave Productions is thrilled to screen a collection of their most recent comedic short films, An Evening of Mighty Brave Shorts, on Thursday, June 21, at Camera, Toronto's premiere lounge and screening room. The night will include three separate screenings that will include a sneak peak of Bonded Pairs, written & directed by John Bertram (director of the original Degrassi Junior High), Boundless, written and directed by Donnie Mullins,(created for Global TVs In the Can), Chasing Aces (directed by Donnie Mullins), and The Gospel of Phi (directed by Donnie Mullins).
“We've had an amazing last three years having produced nine short films,” said Lisa Wegner. Our international screenings and television platform have gotten our stories seen by over a million viewers. With audience and industry support and we're thrilled to finally show our work (on the
big screen) in our hometown.
BondedPairs is a media-mangling mockudrama, playfully answering the curious question: what if our genetic programming was taken over by television programming? The film weaves a tongue-in-cheek narrative around a series of comic, commercial-style vignettes -- and features an accomplished cast of seasoned performers, including Rosemary Dunsmore, Mag Ruffman, Dan Duran, and many (many!) more. Selected scenes from the first half of this unconventional "feature-short" will be presented, and audience comments invited.
Boundless: In this hilarious short, a young woman becomes concerned with her boyfriend's relationship with an 80 year old man, and demands to meet the elderly man who's paging her boyfriend in the middle of the night.
Chasing Aces is a mockumentary about three Riverview patients' obsessed with flying.
The Gospel of Phi: In pursuit of lost love a man finds himself training with one of self-helps least known gurus.
Founded in 1999 by Lisa Wegner, Mighty Brave Productions has developed into a successful and dynamic full service creative film company. Since its inception, Mighty Brave Productions has produced a number of award-winning films that have screened at festivals around the world, including Cannes Film Festival (Short Film Corner). Mighty Brave Productions have built and nurtured strong industry relationships on all levels of production, from the creative team to industry suppliers to skilled crew members. Our indie company believes the best films emerge from a playful, co-creative and safe environment.
Don't miss your chance to laugh the night away. Seating is limited and tickets are sold on first-come first-serve basis. Show times are 7pm, 8pm & 9pm.
Tickets for the screening are $10.00 general admission and $8.00 for students from the Camera box office. Valid student i.d. required. Camera is located at 1028 Queen Street West (west of Ossington)
If you can't make it to Toronto you can download Mighty Brave's movies at HungryFlix.com.

Amazon to sell DRM-free music downloads
The online retailer's virtual store, to be launched this year, was announced in the wake of EMI offering its entire digital catalogue in a format free of digital rights management (DRM) software.
Amazon said all tracks from its download service would be in plain MP3 format, allowing them to be transferred between and played on almost any device, including Apple's market-leading iPod, and burned to CD without restriction.
This is more good news for consumers and music fans. It finally seems that the rest of the world is now agreeing with us here at HungryFlix that DRM only serves to annoy and frustrate true customers while doing nothing to stop true pirates.
HungryFlix.com has been selling movie downloads with no DRM since our inception.

HungryFlix announces platform is now available for film festivals
HungryFlix.com will provide all hosting, bandwidth and payment processing for the film festival. The site’s standard profit sharing model in which profits will be split between the content provider and the online distributor will apply.
Andrews added, “By using our platform for online distribution, any film festival—even a small local festival—can now be international. This can be a great additional marketing source for the festival and more importantly, the filmmakers. It truly is a win-win scenario.”

EMI and Apple team up to remove DRM, add high quality AAC to music downloads
iTunes will be the first online distributor to offer the new DRM-free songs, starting in May.
Many analysts and reports believe that DRM-free files which will play on any music player will hurt iPod sales. Users will have more choice and may choose to purchase a lower cost MP3 player or one that offers more features than current iPods. When asked if DRM-free downloads will have an impact on iPod sales Apple CEO Steve Jobs replied, "I don't see a link, because you have always been able to buy music from elsewhere (CD's) and put it on your iPod. We're going to keep working to do the best job at what we do, and we are going to hope that consumers agree."
This is excellent news for consumers, music and movie fans, and for the future of digital content. HungryFlix.com has been offering movie downloads with no DRM for years now and we really belive that DRM is not a solution. It is rewarding to now see the major studios and Apple agreeing with us.
